If you went to a grocery store like Lidl, you could have gotten ready-made pizzas, cheese, mixed salads, etc for a few Euros (including big bottles of water) and just warm it up in the hostel's microwave. It's possible to eat for very little money if you know where to shop, plus, amazing fresh sourdough baguettes for a few euros at every corner bakery! 🥐 🥖

The most filling crêpe is tuna (or ham) with cheese... suprisingly tasty, very filling and less of a carb load. A fun hack in Paris: when you have a ticket for cultural visits like the Louvre, you can go in and out at will - which means that when a person is done, you can very politely ask if they'd give you their ticket. Many want to keep it as a souvenir, but if you ask nicely from enough people you'll score one pretty quickly. People also discard them on the ground and the surrounding trash 🤔🫡 🥐

When I was traveling and first got to the city that's now my homebase, I stayed in a lovely hostel by the beach/pacific ocean where I could stay for free if I volunteered a few hours a day. I picked the communal kitchen cleaning duty... the food variety left behind was incredible, the volunteers usually ended up getting together to cook a big communal buffet and shared it with staff. I saved so much money there in my first year, I could pay for more than a year's rent and furnish the place I found when I decided I wanted to stay and relocate to that province. What an amazing year of friendships that was, too! 🤔🥰🏔️
